Registration
- An online registration must be submitted or a paper registration form must be turned in to the Friends of Alec office, ECJ 1.205, by Friday, February 27, 2009.
- After the registration is approved, the organization will be notified by email to pick up their $20 from ECJ 1.205.
Rules
- Only registered engineering student organizations and FIGs may participate.
- Alec statue must be between 2 - 4 feet tall, no more than 2 feet wide, and not weigh more than 30 lbs.
- Alec statue MUST be sturdy and mobile enough to be moved between buildings in windy conditions.
- Organizations or FIGs are responsible for repairing any statue that breaks during the course of the competition. Failure to make repairs will result in removal from statue display.
- Alec statue may be made of any materials except for materials that will easily decompose (certain foods, etc.) or items inappropriate for the School (e.g., beer cans). You are welcome to use any materials you have, find, or purchase yourselves in addition or instead of the items you purchase with the $20 we provide.
- Alec statue MUST represent the values and traditions of the original
Alec. (It should be thought appropriate for the School by anyone who
sees it, whether they are familiar with Alec’s history or not.)
- The Dean or his designated representative will approve all entries. - You may NOT enter the same statue your organization entered in a previous year.
Statue Submission
- Your Alec statue, artist statement, receipts, and any remaining money are due to the Friends of Alec office, ECJ 1.205, no later than noon on Friday, March 13, 2009, or your organization or FIG will be disqualified.
Voting
- A blast email with a link to vote online for the best and most creative Alec statue will go out to engineering students, faculty, and staff the week of March 23rd.
- All Alec statue entries will be displayed in the various Engineering buildings between March 25 and March 31.
- Only people with “high assurance” UTEIDs may vote.
- Organizations and FIGs may campaign for their statue.
Winners
- The winners will be chosen by popular vote and announced at noon at Alec’s Birthday Party on Wednesday, April 1, 2009.
- First place wins $500, second gets $250, and third receives $100.
- Winning funds will be directly deposited into each organization’s or FIG’s account.
- The first place statue will be displayed in the engineering library throughout the next year.
