Alec Building Contest Rules

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2008 STUDENT ORGANIZATION ALEC BUILDING CONTEST

  1. Only engineering student organizations are allowed to participate in this contest.
  2. Registration for participation of the Alec statue contest is due by February 22, 2008. To register, a representative from the student organization must submit a participation form to the Friends of Alec Office, ECJ 1.205.  Participation forms are available here and at the Friends of Alec Office, ECJ 1.205.
  3. When you turn in the participation form, you will be given a tax exempt form, $20 cash (to buy supplies for your statue), and an entry form.
  4. The Alec statue and entry form are due to the Friends of Alec Office, ECJ 1.205, no later than noon on Friday, March 7, 2008, or that student organization will be disqualified.
  5. Itemized receipts from purchases and any unspent portion of the $20 need to be turned in with your Alec statue on March 7.
  6. A blast email with a link to vote online for the best and most creative Alec statue will go out to engineering students, faculty, staff and alumni around March 20.
  7. All Alec statues will be displayed in various Engineering buildings March 20 to March 31.
  8. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be announced at Alec’s birthday party, Tuesday, April 1, in ECJ at noon. 1st place will win $1,000, 2nd place will win $500, and 3rd place will win $250 for their student organization.
  9. The 1st place statue will be deemed the new Alec statue and will be on display in the Engineering Library throughout next year.

ALEC STATUE RULES

  1. Alec statue must be between 2-4 feet tall and no more than 2 feet wide.
  2. Alec statue may be made of any materials except for materials that will easily decompose or mold (certain foods, etc.).
  3. Alec statue must be sturdy and mobile enough to be moved easily.  (It should NOT fall apart while being moved between buildings to be displayed!)
  4. Alec statue must represent the values and traditions of the original Alec.
  5. Entry form must be turned in with statue.
  6. All entries will be approved by the Dean or his representative.
  7. Be creative and have fun!!!
  8. Please do NOT enter the same statue your organization entered in a previous year.
