The Cockrell School of Engineering uses Austin Disk Services. Folders are located at \\austin.utexas.edu\disk\engr. Please note in the instructions below, yourPath, is: YourDept\Role\EID, for example, BME\Faculty\abc1234.
To request a faculty or staff folder, please use fill out our Service Request Form.
Every Cockrell School of Engineering student or UT student taking an Engineering class can obtain 1 GB of file space for personal information. Students should use this server storage instead of storing files on the local hard drive. Local hard drives are not backed up and in some labs all data is lost when the machine is rebooted. Your space is located on a network drive, \\austin.utexas.edu\disk\engrstu\
Student Organizations within the Cockrell School of Engineering are eligible for 10 GB of file space on the Austin Disk file server within the engr share.
Research units are highly encouraged to store their data on the campus' Austin Disk service within the Cockrell School organizational hierarchy: \\austin.utexas.edu\disk\engr\research
The Austin Disk File Server is backed up in case of catastrophic failure. In the event of accidental or unexpected data loss you can restore a file or folder that has been deleted or a previous version of a file that has become corrupt. Please see Austin Disk Recovering Files page for details.
Desktops and laptops can be particularly vulnerable to data loss, and manually backing up files can be a time consuming and tedious process. The UTBackup service provides faculty and staff who use desktops and laptops a simple and automatic tool for backing up and restoring their files. The UTBackup service uses the CrashPlan software.
Backing up to an external drive or other external media has become siginificantly easier in Windows 7. You no longer need an external piece of software to make efficient backups of your computer.
Students need to enable their EIDs to access Engineering labs, 500Mb of data storage and printing services.
