Student Data Storage

Every Cockrell School of Engineering student or UT student taking an Engineering class can obtain 4 GB of file space for personal information. Students should use this server storage instead of storing files on the local hard drive.  Local hard drives are not backed up and in some labs all data is lost when the machine is rebooted.  Your space is located on a network drive, \\\disk\engrstu\yourDept\eid, where yourDept is, e.g. ME, and eid is your personal UT EID.

Austin Disk Backup & Restore

The Austin Disk File Server is backed up in case of catastrophic failure.  In the event of accidental or unexpected data loss you can restore a file or folder that has been deleted or a previous version of a file that has become corrupt.  Please see Austin Disk Recovering Files page for details.

  • Automatically monitors and optimizes backup disk space.
  • Automatically detects storage devices, analyzes your system, and offers "best practice" backup advice during installation.
  • Minimum Requirements
    • Windows 7 Enterprise, Professional or Ultimate or Windows Vista
    • External USB 2.0 / 3.0 hard drive
  • Instructions
  • Note:  It is strongly recommended that you use the UTBackup system as well.  This ensures that your backup is stored in an offsite, secure location.
