Bishop to Receive Atwood Engineering Education Award

     Dr. Robert H. Bishop, aerospace engineering professor at The University of Texas at Austin the past 9 years, has been selected to receive the 1999 John Leland Atwood Award.

     The award, which carries a $2,000 honorarium, is given to "a leader who has made lasting and significant contributions to aerospace engineering education" by the American Society for Engineering Education and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

     Bishop’s career has been highlighted by numerous teaching and research awards. Both center on the human exploration of space and on robotic planetary exploration. His current research focuses on spacecraft guidance and navigation during interplanetary travel and hypersonic atmospheric entry for Mars missions.
