Young Faculty Receive National Research Awards

     Conveying the highest honor awarded to junior faculty members in science and engineering, the National Science Foundation named three young University of Texas at Austin engineering faculty as recipients of the Faculty Early Career Development Award.

     The award provides $50,000-55,000 per year for four to five years toward the recipient's research. Recipients were:

  • Dr. Gustavo de Veciana, assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, who will use the funds to improve design and control of telecommunication networks
  • Dr. Robert B. Gilbert, assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, who will use the funds to improve environmental risk management and decision making; and
  • Dr. Margarida F. Jacome, assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, who will use the funds to improve design reuse in computer-aided design software and hardware
