Event: 1 Semester Startup's "Demo Day" Featuring Indeed CEO and Co-founder, Rony Kahan, and Six-Minute Pitches From 10 Student Startups

When: Thursday, Nov. 29, 5-9 p.m., open to the public

Where: Etter-Harbin Alumni Center, 2110 San Jacinto Blvd, University of Texas at Austin

Background: The third-ever "Demo Day" will unite Austin's startup community with entrepreneurially-minded students in a showcasing of 11 undergraduate student startups from The University of Texas at Austin on Thursday, Nov. 29.

Rony Kahan, CEO and co-founder of Indeed, will be the keynote speaker for Demo Day. Indeed is a leading worldwide job-searching website with more than 1.5 billion job searches and 70 million unique visitors each month.

After the keynote, each student startup will present a six-minute investor pitch. The startups are part of the fall 1 Semester Startup (1SS) class, an interdisciplinary entrepreneurship practicum for undergraduate student startups.

The class allows undergraduates who already have startups to experience entrepreneurship first-hand while learning from some of the most successful entrepreneurs in Austin. The 1SS startups slated to present include Beehive, Book512, Caysun, Clay.io, CrowdRx, Hoot.me, Lynx Labs, Predictable Data, Servuss, StillOpen and Team Pi.

For more information on how to attend and to see a list of attendees, RSVP online. The event is open to the public.

1SS is co-taught by Bob Metcalfe — inventor of Ethernet, founder of 3Com and the Cockrell School's Murchison Fellow of Free Enterprise — along with Joshua Baer of Capital Factory and the Department of Computer Science, and Johnny Butler of the IC2 Institute and the McCombs School of Business. Baer and Metcalfe will emcee the event.

The class has graduated more than 35 startups and is preparing for its fourth semester. Baer and Metcalfe will announce a name change for "1 Semester Startup" to "Longhorn Startup Lab." They will also announce the addition of Longhorn Startup Seminar for students as well as a Longhorn Startup Studio for faculty.
