Cockrell School of Engineering Dean Sharon L. Wood and UT Austin Executive Vice President and Provost Gregory L. Fenves will be inducted into the Academy of Engineering of Mexico on Feb. 5.

Both Wood and Fenves will be in Mexico City to be honored at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. Wood will deliver a presentation on “Passive sensors for infrastructure monitoring,” and Fenves will present on “The open-source approach for computational modeling and simulation for earthquake engineering: history, accomplishments and future needs.”

Wood and Fenves hold faculty appointments in the Cockrell School’s Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering and both are structural engineers with expertise in earthquake engineering. Both are also members of the United States’ National Academy of Engineering (NAE), with Wood being elected in 2013 and Fenves being elected in 2014.

A member of the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technology, the Academy of Engineering of Mexico is a non-profit association that brings together professionals and academics to contribute to the development of the engineering industry locally and internationally.
