Texas team drives away with Rube Goldberg prize

Danny Linehan of the University of Texas at Austin reviews the 35 steps necessary for the school's National Rube Goldberg Machine Contest entry to load a compact disc into a CD player and play it. The "Rube Goldberg Pit Crew" won the ninth annual competition April 5 at Purdue.

Doug Shoenenberger and Paul Calhoun of the University of Texas at Austin reset their winning entry in the National Rube Goldberg Machine Contest. The ninth annual competition asked students to build complicated machines to load a compact disc into a CD player and play it. The "Rube Goldberg Pit Crew" contraption performed the task in 35 steps.
