European approval received for Abbott's continuous glucose monitor with sensor developed at University of Texas at Austin

The pharmaceutical company Abbott recently received European CE Mark approval for a continuous glucose monitoring system whose biosensor technology was pioneered by Dr. Adam Heller, a chemical engineering professor at the university. “I came to The University of Texas at Austin to create technology that helps people, particularly sick people,” said the research professor. He and his son, Ephraim, co-developed a prototype of the glucose monitoring sensor at the university based on Adam Heller's expertise on the electrical wiring of enzymes.
