Dr. J. Tinsley Oden, aerospace engineering professor at The University of Texas at Austin, has been awarded the honorary doctorate, “doctor honoris causa Politechniki Krakowskiej,” from the Academic Senate of Cracow University of Technology in Poland.  This is the highest academic degree offered by the institution.  It will be bestowed on him in June 2001.

Oden has also been awarded life member status with the American Society of Civil Engineers.  As an international leader in computational mechanics, Oden’s research involves computer modeling of physical actions ranging from designing a quieter and longer lasting tire to underground aquifer flow. By simulating it on the computer, Dr. Oden avoids long and expensive tests.
