Liechti elected Fellow of Society for Experimental Mechanics
January 21, 2003

Dr. Kenneth Liechti, professor of engineering mechanics at The University of Texas at Austin, was recently elected Fellow of the Society for Experimental Mechanics, an honor designated for those who have made “notable contributions to the Society and the field of experimental mechanics.” The award will be given at the society’s 2003 annual conference in Charlotte, N.C. in June.

Dr. Liechti’s research focuses on adhesive bonding and composite materials. Adhesively bonded joints use polymer glue to join structural components, which are often metallic or fiber reinforced polymer composites. Such joints are used in airplanes and are being considered for primary structural joints in automobiles.  Adhesion is also important in laminated materials such as composites or in the multi-layered structures that make up microelectronics devices.

Dr. Liechti has served on the College of Engineering faculty since 1982, and currently holds the E.P. Schoch Professorship in Engineering.
