HENAAC awards scholarships to five engineering students

Five University of Texas at Austin engineering students will receive scholarships this year ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 from the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corporation.

Electrical engineering senior Lisa de La Fuente, aerospace engineering senior Robert Sandoval and electrical and computer graduate student Teri Houle won for the first time. Electrical engineering senior Carlos Silva will receive the scholarship for the second year in a row. Mechanical engineering graduate student Carlos Aguilar was awarded the scholarship for the third time.

The students can use the money for tuition, books or living expenses. They also won trips to the 2006 HENAAC Conference in Anaheim, California. The conference package includes airfare, hotel and registration expenses.

Winners had at least 3.0 grade point averages and were selected based on leadership and campus and community service.

HENAAC is a nonprofit organization that promotes the achievements of Hispanics in engineering, science, technology, and math. The organization attempts to help Hispanics in technology by encouraging, enabling, and increasing the number of Hispanic students pursuing technical degrees.
