In the annual rankings of graduate program quality by U.S. News and World Report, the College of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin ranked 11th in the nation among 199 accredited engineering schools offering doctoral programs, and fifth among the public institutions.
The University of Texas at Austin’s engineering programs were all ranked in the top 20: Aerospace (11th), Biomedical (18th), Chemical (7th), Civil (4th), Computer (6th), Electrical/Electronics (10th), Environmental (4th), Mechanical (12th), and Petroleum (1st).
The college rankings are based on entrance exam scores, student acceptance rates, faculty/student ratios, research expenditures, reputation among engineers in academia and industry, Ph.D.s produced, and percentage of faculty elected to membership in the National Academy of Engineering.
“The quality of our faculty and students is clearly reflected in these rankings,” noted Ben Streetman, dean of UT’s College of Engineering. "We continue to focus on recruiting and supporting the best faculty and students, who in turn make significant contributions to developing technologies that improve the lives of people everywhere.”
