Chandra R. Bhat, a civil engineering associate professor at The University of Texas at Austin, was awarded the James Laurie Prize from the American Society of Civil Engineers. The James Laurie Prize is awarded annually to a member of the society for contributions to the advancement of transportation engineering.
Dr. Bhat is also the associate chairman of the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering and the Fluor Centennial Teaching Fellow in Engineering. His research focuses mainly on the mathematical modeling of transportation decisions to help develop strategies such as telecommuting and ridesharing incentives to alleviate traffic congestion.
