Visa Information

IT IS NECESSARY TO OBTAIN A VISA FOR US CITIZENS TO ENTER BRAZIL. Depending on your location, you will need to apply at the appropriate Embassy or Consulate. The information on where to apply is at

A tourist visa is appropriate for PASI participants, as no participant pay is involved. For a tourist visa:

Submission to the Consulate of one visa application form per applicant, properly filled out (first and second pages) and duly signed (parents must sign application forms for those under 18 years old), together with the following documentation:

  • passport with a minimum remaining validity of six months prior to its expiration date, and with at least 2 blank visa pages available for the visa stamp - excluding the pages reserved for Amendments and Endorsements
  • for non-Americans returning to the USA, copy of green card or valid American visa allowing for re-entry into the USA
  • for non-Americans without a green card or valid re-entry visa into the USA, valid visa to country of final destination after trip to Brazil (this requirement does not apply to applicants returning to country of citizenship)
  • one recent 2"x 2" passport-type photograph of applicant, showing entire face (must be front view) in white background. Snapshots and computer pictures are not accepted
  • photocopy of round trip ticket or signed letter by travel agency attesting to the acquisition of the ticket and informing confirmed round trip bookings
  • as applicable (i.e., for unpaid participation in athletic or artistic event/competition or for unpaid participation in scientific/academic seminar/conference ), copy of letter by sponsors from Brazil with detailed information on the event and conditions of attendance
  • as applicable (i.e., if applicant traveled within the last 90 days to any of the following countries: Angola, Bolivia, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, French Guiana, Gabon, Ghana, Gambia, Republic of Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Peru, Sierra Leone, Sudan, or Venezuela), yellow fever vaccination certificate. Please note that yellow fever vaccination is advisable if applicant's destination in Brazil includes any of the following States: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Federal District, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima, and Tocantins.
  • as applicable, polio vaccination certificate (only for children between the ages of 3 months and 6 years)
  • appropriate payments, as applicable.

As it takes some time to obtain the visa, please apply as soon as possible.
