GENERAL MEETINGS

General meetings provide members with current information on organization (Pi Sigma Pi, NSBE, and SHPE) events, current campus events, and allow them to interact with corporate representatives. Members are also informed of resources available to Pi students to help them succeed academically, such as free one-on-one tutoring, test bank review work, Pi 3.0 challenge, and peer mentoring information.

PI STUDY NIGHTS

Study nights provide an evening for members of Pi / SHPE / NSBE to come together and study in a welcoming study setting. This will provide a friendly and fun atmosphere where members can get to know each other better with an intention to help develop a sense of community at the university. The purpose of these study nights is to create an academic family that struggles, studies, and succeeds together. Food and snacks are provided.

YES/LTE DAY

YES (Young Scientist and Engineers) Day and LTE (Liberation Through Education) Day are events held every semester on a dead day before finals. Middle school students visit the College of Engineering at UT Austin to learn about engineering and what they need to do to get into college. We teach them about all the different majors in engineering and assign a critical thinking project for them to accomplish during the day. These events provide minority students with information about engineering and encourage them to pursue a college education.

PI @ LeaderShape Texas

LeaderShape Texas is designed to empower UT engineering undergraduates by teaching them how to develop a long-term personal vision for success. LeaderShape Texas is a six day leadership training camp led by the College of Engineering that teaches students to explore themselves and develop better personal and group goals. This camp promotes a sense of community awareness while also giving students an opportunity to develop their own personal leadership skills. Past participants of this event have all agreed that it is a life changing experience and that it is absolutely imperative that students take advantage of this opportunity to polish their leadership skills.

In order to develop the membership of Pi Sigma Pi, we will recruit and send 30 members to LeaderShape Texas . This intense program will help us to fulfill our mission by equipping our members with the leadership skills they need to succeed professionally. We want these young members to return and apply their newly acquired leadership skills to help lead Pi Sigma Pi into the future.

Ladies Night

The purpose of Ladies Night is to offer a special evening tailored to meet the interests of female Pi Sigma Pi, NSBE, and SHPE members. Ultimately, the goal is to increase the number of ladies who choose to become active members of Pi, NSBE, and SHPE. Created in 2006, Ladies night has successfully united the minority women in the College of Engineering through this night of fellowship. During this event, women from Pi Sigma Pi, NSBE, and SHPE meet with successful women in the engineering industry and learn how to overcome the challenges women face everyday in engineering, a predominately male field.
