Please read the following items carefully to review the general regulations and procedures governing Engineering Scholarship awards.

1. School of Engineering Scholarships are payable in two parts, one half in the fall and one half in the spring, beginning the first class day of each long semester. Conditions for receiving these two checks include enrollment in the School of Engineering and maintenance of the minimum In Residence GPA required for the scholarship as detailed in the scholarship award notification. In some cases, students must enroll in a specific major to receive the scholarship.
2. Engineering students must register for a minimum of 14 hours which includes 12 hours of courses listed in the student's major degree plan according to the Undergraduate Catalog, leading to a degree in engineering at UT Austin. First-year students are exempt from the 14 hour requirement their first semester. Beyond that, if a student takes fewer than 14 hours during long semesters, a request to take <14 hours must be completed online and approved by the Engineering Student Affairs in ECJ 2.200. Engineering students enrolled in Plan II must take the required number of hours; however they may be required to take courses specific to the Plan II major. Any student receiving a scholarship in the summer must register for 8 hours of summer courses at UT Austin.
3. Engineering scholarships are not paid to students until the first class day or later. Recipients visit the Engineering Scholarship Program Office in ECJ 2.106 between the first class day and October 1 to sign thank you letters and release scholarship funds. Students release spring funds between the first class day in the spring and February 28. Once the funds are released, they will be electronically deposited to their bank or mailed. Scholarships not released by October 1, in the fall semester or February 28, in the spring semester are subject to cancellation and may be re-awarded to other deserving students. More information will be provided later regarding the thank you letter submission.
4. Multi-year scholarships are renewable provided the recipient continues to meet the conditions described in the offer letter and reapplies during the spring semester each year by completing the Engineering Scholarship Application. Multi-year scholarships are also dependent upon the availability of funds.
5. In general, no engineering student should receive more than one scholarship award from sources within The University of Texas at Austin or the School of Engineering. This includes some University awards and the Texas Exes Awards for Scholarship and Leadership. Also included are scholarships funded by outside sources administered through the School of Engineering or UT Austin and handled through University accounts such as the Terry Foundation Scholarship. This also includes scholarship awards through the Engineering Scholarship Program or the departments in the School of Engineering such as the Society of Automotive Engineers Awards or corporate scholarships. However, students ARE allowed to receive their engineering scholarship along with national competitive awards such as National Merit Scholarships.
6. Should a student receive more than one scholarship award from sources within UT Austin or the School of Engineering, the Engineering Scholarship Program will review the total award package and adjustments could be made to the School of Engineering awards. In such cases, a student might be allowed to keep the additional scholarship, but the original scholarship award could be reduced accordingly. In no case will the total amount of the combined scholarship awards be less than the original School of Engineering award.
7. Engineering scholarship recipients who Co-op, studying abroad or leave campus during the fall or spring semester must notify the Engineering Scholarship Program to ensure the continuation of the scholarship award. A Co-op or Study Abroad form must be completed online. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the scholarship.
8. Students who receive scholarships after filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with The University of Texas at Austin Office of Student Financial Services are restricted to specific maximum amounts of financial assistance. Due to possible maximum amounts, the OSFS may adjust financial aid award packages as a result of additional scholarships awarded by the School or other sources.
9. When reviewing scholarship and financial awards online through the University’s CASH Web site in UT Direct, Engineering scholarships will not appear. Engineering scholarships are funded by the School of Engineering and not the University, so Engineering scholarships will not appear on this Web site. If requested by OSFS, students should report their Engineering scholarships as additional scholarships. Recipients can view their Engineering scholarship awards online in the Engineering Scholarship Student Menu.
10. The restrictions and regulations listed do not apply to scholarships or awards a student receives from sources outside The University of Texas at Austin such as private foundations or civic organizations.
