What:

The SEC is working with the Campus Environmental Center (utenvironment.org) to host the first annual Recycling Challenge. Every year, numerous engineering societies representing the College of Engineering participate in a similar competition to collect canned food donations from Austin area businesses and neighborhoods. This year, the SEC is sponsoring a new initiative to encourage students - by means of a friendly competition amongst societies - to recycle.

Paper, aluminum, and plastics 1 & 2 will be accepted on two collection dates and weighed, after which scores will be tabulated to determine prize distribution.

Prizes:

A total of $1000 in prizes will be distributed to winning societies, and all societies are encouraged to participate.

$400 - Grand Prize
$200 - Midpoint Winner
$200 - Greatest Weighted Mass
$200 - Greatest Weighted Mass / total membership ratio

When:

  • 3/3 - SEC General Meeting; distribute rules to organizations (organizations may begin collecting recyclables)
  • Week of 3/10 - Spring Break (prime time to recycle!)
  • 3/17 - Recycling drive officially begins.
  • 3/22 - Midpoint Collection, 12:00 noon – 3:00 pm @ Lot 25
  • 3/29 - Final Collection, 12:00 noon – 3:00 pm @ Lot 25
  • 3/31 - SEC General Meeting; announce winners

Individuals are invited to contribute on either drop-off date as well, and there will be a party on the 29th, to which all engineers are invited!
