EWEEK Scavenger Hunt 2008
“photo verification”: “photo verification” is defined as a photo containing at least two members of your society, and an issue of the Daily Texan occurring during the time period of EWEEK. (Fri 15-Sat23) The paper must be visible enough for us to verify that it was from during EWEEK.
*EACH TASK IS WORTH 1 POINT UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED AND/OR BOLDED*
1.) The number of steps to get from the 4th to 5th floor on RLM. 2.) 1 point each for middle name of the president of a UT student engineering organization other than your own. 3.) A picture with the 2 eweek t-shirts. No two eweek tshirts can be from the same eweek year. Please provide one front and one back shot. 4.) A picture with the 2 UT Engineering student planners, no two planners can be form the same year. 5.) A “Royal Flush” of TI calculators. “photo verification” necessary, this picture to include one example of every vintage of TI calculator from TI-82 to TI-89 Titanium, and all major models in-between. i.e. TI 89 not equal to TI-89 titanium. 6.) The tallest “house of texts”. The texts must be heavy engineering texts. No “flat stacking, i.e. flat surface of one text to flat surface of another. Think house of cards but with engineering test books. “video verification”. 7.) A Photo Verified picture with Bevo. 8.) A “Transfer to Engineering Booth” set up in the student table section outside FAC area. Objective: attempt to convince students that their majors are fairly useless and that engineering really will benefit them in the long run, both economically and intellectually. “video verification” required during high traffic time periods. 2 points 9.) A published “Firing Line” article in the Daily Texan emphasizing the superiority of the engineering education and engineering careers. 10.) The tallest house of cards made from 3 standard decks. “video verification” required. No glue or other adhesives aloud. After height is verified on video, the same shot must show the card house being collapsed, and the cards being counted to verify three deck limit. 11.) “video verification” of water being boiled with nothing but the power of the Sun. 12.) The weight of the festivus pole, accurate to .1kg. 13.) The power consumption of the Godzillatron, in kW/hr. Please provide an explanation for how you obtained your result. 14.) Mack Brown’s Signature. Please either provide “photo verification”, or a dated signature within the time period of eweek. 3 points 15.) Vince Young’s Signature. Please either provide “photo verification”, or a dated signature within the time period of eweek. 3 points 16.) A photo at center court of Erwin Center. Please provide “photo verification”. 17.) The founding year of every department within the college of engineering. Please provide your source of evidence for these years. 18.) The inner radius of the eweek large or small group trophy. 19.) The name of the longest serving tenured faculty member still working in the engineering department. Please provide starting year and number of years served. 20.) A walking orientation guide from the entrance of ECJ, to the MLK side entrance steps of the tower, to the capitol. Assume you cannot walk through barriers. Please provide a guide to orientating a persons stride to your own. (think compass bearings, paces, midpoint landmarks at bearings etc.) 21.) A calculation of the tower’s height using only a meter stick and optical angle measurement. Video provide a verification of the measurement process, and the calculation based on these measurements. 22.) The number of occurrences of the letter “U” and number of occurrences of “T” in the most recent edition of the Vector. Please organize count by article. 23.) The number of “B”s, “E”s, “V”s,”O”s in a solved crossword puzzle of the most recent Vector. Please organize results by letter. 24.) The longest time a ping pong is kept aloft using a single paddle, with no two hits of the ball occurring with the same face of the paddle. 25.) Tour De Alec: 1 point each for a picture of an Alec statue taken: -On the capitol lawn (view of capitol behind him) - On top of the tower with view toward engineering - Inside Cain & Able’s with a frosty brew. ( if for some reason a society has failed to make Alec statues in the past, shame on you. However, there is a certain student engineering council which has several statues inside it’s walls…….) 26.) 10 points: A picture of an ALEC statue at A&M: -Alec most be standing on the steps inside their main engineering building. This building features 3-4 floors of rooms and a large 3-4 floor central atrium where the stairs serve to provide access to the floors. - Must be “photo verified”, with at least two standard longhorn shirts being worn by society members standing side by side with Alec. 27.) The largest representation of the longhorn logo made out plate metal. “photo verification” with measurement, the back of piece must have your societies name permanently engraved into the back, also “photo verified”. 28.) A frequency plot of the entire “Eyes of Texas” song as played by the UT band. Please provide response and MP3. 29.) “Will Integrate for Food”. A society member with sign attempting to do students calculus for food. Student to be positioned on engineering bridge during passing period(s). We expect cardboard signage, loud rants and propositioning.”video verification” required. 3 Points 30.) The best bellyflop. Performer to shout warcry of “hook’em” on way to water. “video verification”. 31.) Any shoe belonging to Ryan McQuiston. (2 points) 32.) The signature of 3 department heads (i.e. Ambler). 33.) 1 point for each signature of a tenured professor who signs a statement saying that your society is clearly the best society in the engineering school. The statement must provide at paragraph expanding upon the reasoning why your society is the best. (think a paragraph you construct, and a lot of space at the bottom of page for profs to sign. Please have the professor sign and date including time of day. Each professor’s signature will be good for ONLY the first occurrence of it, and will count for only one society. Please provide signature and printed name.) 34.) “photo verification” with the Chair of EDAM’s dog. 35.) A picture capturing Clifton Roozeboom doing something unproductive. (3 points) 36.) A rubber band ball of diameter > .5 ft. 37.) The highest bounce of said rubber band ball, video verified. Please make sure the video is shot well enough for us to judge how high the ball traveled. 38.) A glamour shot taken with Taylor Castello. Taylor must have a “model” look on her face. “Blue Steel” works just fine. 39.) The duck taping of the most society members to a wall. People must be in same shot. Warning, do not use a weak wall, use a brick wall if in doubt. We are not responsible for your silliness. 40.) The largest size reproduction of your student acronym, captured in a photograph. Please give us estimation for scale. 41.) 2 minutes of travel of a slinky on campus. “video verification”.
15 Points:
A photo with one of the Presidential Candidates who has won a state primary and is still running for president. Candidate to be demonstrating the horns hand gesture. Picture must be during time period of EWEEK, with a society member (but we don’t expect you to hold up a vector).
A picture with any past president of the SEC with “photo verification”. (Only need one society member in photo if photo taken outside of Austin). Society member must be a current active member. Please remember “photo verification” means the picture must be taken during EWEEK.
The EWEEK large group trophy brought to one of the EWEEK chairs before Friday at noon during EWEEK. Sorry ASME, you can’t win this one.

Each item is worth 1point unless they are bold, bolded items are worth the value specified next to them.
The teams are ranked by the most points they collect and must be turned in by Saturday 23rd 5PM ( 2hrs before the banquet)
1st Place – 200 Pts. ( worth 1.5 times the placing points for regular events) 2nd Place – 175 Pts. 3rd Place – 150 Pts.
