Rules

  1. Competitors must also be a registered member of the society they are competing for. The EWeek committee reserves the right to make random checks of names against official member lists. Official member lists must be made available upon request. The obtained copies of these lists will be destroyed after EWeek to protect organizational member privacy.
  2. Events judged on a subjective basis require third-party impartial judging. Judges may not be affiliated with a participating or hosting society.
  3. Only students and faculty who sign in on an official sign-in sheet and state the name of their organization will be counted. No name, no points. Names are subject to random checks against membership lists.
  4. In events with more than one team or competitor per society, each society gets points for placing only once. (Example: ASME places 1st and 2nd, AIChE places 3rd, and IEEE places 4th in the bowling tournament. ASME gets 100 points, AIChE gets 75 points, and IEEE gets 50 points.)
  5. If your society is hosting an EWeek event for which points are being awarded, it is very important that you keep track of how many people show up from each society and the winners in each competition. Please note that winning points are given to the top three societies in each category of small and large society. If one society places twice in your event you need to determine a fourth place winner also.
  6. If two or more societies decide to work together on any EWeek events, the points awarded for participation and placing will be split equally among the societies.
  7. EDAM points will be added to EWeek event points (consult your EDAM packet for more information).
  8. Point results will be posted by midnight daily in the event they are received on time. Otherwise we will attempt to post in the morning. As an absolute max, we will attempt to post within 24 hours. Obviously, points awarded very near the banquet dinner will be expedited to being published on the website.
  9. To protest point results, the president of the organization in question must contact the point's coordinator or EWeek chairs by 12 p.m. the next day. After that time, no further complaints will be taken.
  10. Complaints must be submitted via e-mail to the EWeek Chairs. Only the president of an organization may submit complaints unless there are extenuating circumstances (inability to locate the president does not count), and no anonymous complaints will be considered.
  11. Points will be deducted for cheating or unsportsmanlike behavior during any EWeek event. Cheating is defined as actions affecting the outcome of an event in a manner in violation of or the event rules or the general rules. Unsportsmanlike conduct is defined as actions personally derisive to competitors or otherwise in violation of EWeek's spirit of friendly competition. Societies are asked to display sportsmanlike conduct during the banquet. Societies are also asked to be explicit in writing their event rules. All of the points accrued for a particular event can be deducted at the discretion of the EWeek chairs and SEC Officers.
  12. These rules are subject to change without notice. All changes will be posted. It is up to you to make sure that you stay up to date with any possible changes that may occur.
