Cynthia M. Brown (Cindy) is a director in the Dean's Office in the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. Her portfolio includes compliance, training, human resources and inventory. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a member of the American Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Cindy received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Abilene Christian University in 1982. Originally from Austin, she returned to Austin immediately after graduation to work at UT.
She began working as an Internal Auditor I in the Office of Internal Audits in June 1982 and left in January 1987 as an Internal Auditor III. Her next position was Assistant to the Business Manager in the Office of the Associate Vice President and Business Manager. She held this position until July 1993 at which time she moved to the Cockrell School of Engineering as the Financial Officer. In June 1997, she was given the title of Assistant Dean for Business Affairs when she took over the responsibilities of administration and human resources as well as continuing with financial duties. In October 2006, Cindy transferred from the Business Affairs Office to a newly created Office of Compliance and Training.
Cindy has been involved in many committees at the University, including the Student Services Fee Committee, the Parking & Transportation Policy Committee, Parking Garages 4A&B and Administration Buildings 4A&B Committee, Handbook of Operating Procedures Rewrite Committee, Endowment Compliance Risk Advisory Group and numerous joint application development (JAD) groups related to UT's administrative computing system. Cindy currently serves on the Position Management Advisory Group, the Human Resource Consortium and the Inventory Users Group Committee.
Cindy received the University's Employee Excellence Award in 1993, a Cockrell School of Engineering Staff Excellence Award in 1996, and a 25-year service award in May 2007.
