Laurie Young is the Program Coordinator for the International Engineering Education Office (IEE). She came to the Cockrell School of Engineering from Austin Travis County MHMR in 2005, where she was a Service Coordinator. Her international work experience includes working as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Jamaica for two years. As a volunteer, she worked with local artists to create an artisan coop, wrote grants to the USAID and Canada Fund to receive funding for a catalog of their goods as well assisting with the creation of the first female soccer team outside of Kingston. While an undergraduate student at SUNY Oneonta in New York, she studied abroad twice, once in Australia and the second time in Quebec. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Higher Education Administration at the University of Texas at Austin.

As Program Coordinator for the IEE Office, Laurie is responsible for the development and coordination of all aspects of the international programs offered through IEE. This includes development, academic integration, marketing, advising, coordinating orientations and assisting students while they are abroad for the semester exchange, faculty-led summer, faculty-led Maymester programs. The IEE Office started in 2005 and sent 11 students abroad that year. In academic year 2007-08 the IEE Office sent 117 students abroad.

Laurie is an active member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators on both the Regional and National levels. She is a member of the Higher Education Administration Student Professional Association at UT and the Returned Peace Corps Volunteer group of Central Texas.
