Ramshorn Retreats

Before the tower commanded the campus landscape, before Bevo presided over UT sports, and before the Hook'em Horns sign provided Longhorn fans a friendly hand gesture, the Ramshorn defined excellence for eager-to-be engineers. T.U. Taylor, the first engineering faculty member and first dean of UT Engineering, began drawing an elaborate checkmark on his students' work-a mark reserved for perfect papers. In 1905, Taylor overheard a student exclaim he had “earned a Ramshorn.” From that christening, the mark evolved into a symbol Texas engineers seized as their own.  From Texas engineering students at the beginning of the century, the Ramshorn represented a high quality standard that became a lifetime goal. It is now the country's oldest quality symbol and remains alive today in the Cockrell School of Engineering as a reminder of the high standards pursued by over a century of UT engineers.

To continue this spirit of engineering excellence and leadership, Engineering Student Life is proud to offer the Ramshorn Retreats for undergraduate engineering students.

The Ramshorn Retreats are open to all Cockrell School of Engineering undergraduates.  To participate, you must be a registered undergraduate in the Cockrell School of Engineering.  While not required, it is recommended that the retreats be completed in order.

The Ramshorn Retreats are held on Fridays on campus, FREE and include dinner (vegetarian option available).
