The purpose of this policy is to provide safety guidelines that protect the student, faculty, staff, and visitors of The University of Texas at Austin.  Pertaining to:

Banner Space & Policy

This policy relates to both banner display poles.

Banner location #1 is located on the north end of the pedestrian walkway over Dean Keeton Street between ECJ and CPE / ETC.

Banner location #2 is located on the south end of the walkway between ECJ and ENS.

NOTE: 
Requests for a banner or banners to be displayed from the bridge facing the traffic will *NOT* be approved. Such requests carry liability issues which neither the Cockrell School of Engineering or The University of Texas will assume.  Any banner that is found to be facing the traffic WILL BE CUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY.

Policies:

  1. The event or program to be advertised must be sponsored by the Cockrell School of Engineering (CSE), an organization sponsored by and/or registered with CSE or UT, or The University of Texas at Austin (UT).
  2. CSE sponsored events or programs will be given priority over all others. Engineering student organizations will be given the next highest priority.
  3. The event or program must be CSE or UT wide in nature.
  4. The following types of banners WILL NOT be approved:
        Commercial advertisements
        Anything political in nature (ex: Student Government or regular organization elections)
        Banners for events or programs promoting a corporate supporter
        Banners from non-UT Austin entities
  5. Only banners scheduled and approved through Engineering Student Life may be hung.
  6. The banner poles have been placed at a higher height in order to comply with safety issues for pedestrian traffic; therefore we have new standards as to who can hang banners.
  7. Only University employees (faculty, staff, and student workers) are permitted to physically hang these banners due to the new height requirements.
  8. The requesting organization is responsible for providing the banner to Engineering Student Life, ECJ 1.224, two (2) days prior to date to be hung.
  9. The requesting organization is responsible for picking up the banner from Engineering Student Life within two (2) days of being taken down.  Failure to do so will result in the banner being discarded.
  10. The Cockrell School of Engineering and Engineering Student Life assume no responsibility for security or maintenance of the banner, nor for replacement of discarded banners.
  11. Clearance of at least 6'8" (80 inches) is required.  Any banner determined to be a hazard to the pedestrian traffic will be removed.
  12. It is recommended that banners not be left hanging over the weekend.
  13. Requests for banner space is limited to one week time limitations.

Procedure:

  1. Requests for use of the banner area must be made at least two weeks prior to the event or program to the Engineering Student Life and are accepted on-line only (link below).
  2. Requests must include:
        Name of the requesting organization
        Name and contact information (e-mail address and phone number) of requesting person
        Dates for display of banner
        Description of the event or program
        At the time of request a .pdf of the banner must be e-mailed to
            studentlife@engr.utexas.edu.  Requests will not be considered without the .pdf 
  3. Notification of banner request decisions will follow within five (5) days of request.  Notification will specify banner location and direction banner should face, "north" or "south".
  4. The requesting organization/department/office is responsible for furnishing all necessary banner materials.  Banner will not be hung if necessary materials are not furnished.                                                       

Banner Locations:

Banner Location #1 - located on the north end of the pedestrian walkway over Dean Keeton Street by ETC and CPE.

Banner Location #2 - located on the south end of the walkway between ECJ and ENS.

Banner Design:
