Student Leadership Award (Undergraduate and Graduate)

Undergraduates
In 1970, the Student Engineering Council established the Student Leadership Award in Engineering. Each year six awards are presented. Each recipient receives a framed certificate and a $200 check, which is presented at a ceremony/luncheon during E-Week. Their names will be recorded on a permanent plaque displayed on the 10th floor of Ernest Cockrell Jr. Hall.
Who can apply/criteria?
- Cockrell School of Engineering undergraduates with at least 24 hours in residence
- May self nominate or nominate anyone else meeting criteria
- May be nominated by Cockrell School of Engineering faculty and staff
- Previous winners are not eligible to win again
When will winners be selected?
- Winners will be notified in December 2009
- Award ceremony held during E-Week in February 2010
The students being nominated should:
- Have a personal history of positively affecting the Cockrell School of Engineering student community,
- Have held a leadership position within a Cockrell School of Engineering student organization,
- Have dedicated themselves to overcome obstacles and pursuing their visions,
- Have motivated, guided, mentored, and supported the Cockrell School of
Engineering student organizations by:
a) trusting and working effectively with their colleagues,
b) honoring the contributions of every individual, and
c) pushing others to excel on their own while they strive to improve
the Cockrell School of Engineering community.
Remember, this is a Cockrell School of Engineering Award, so the focus of involvement of the nominated student should be school wide before university wide.
Graduates
Graduate Student Leadership Awards
The Graduate Student Leadership Awards in Engineering were established in 2008 through an endowment by Abtine Tavassoli, PhD in Electrical Engineering, December 2007. Two awards are presented each year. Each recipient receives a framed certificate and a $200 check, which is presented at a ceremony/luncheon during E-Week. Their names will be recorded on a permanent plaque displayed on the 10th floor of Ernest Cockrell Jr. Hall.
Who can apply/criteria?
- Cockrell School of Engineering graduate students with at least 18 hours in residence
- May self nominate or nominate anyone else meeting criteria
- May be nominated by Cockrell School of Engineering students, faculty and staff
- Previous winners are not eligible to win again

- Winners will be notified in December 2009
- Award ceremony held during E-Week in February 2010

The Engineering Student Leadership Service Award
to these students for their unselfish contributions to the betterment of the Cockrell School of Engineering and the University of Texas at Austin by demonstration of superior performance in the areas of Leadership, Service, Innovation, and Humanitarianism.
