The Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, ranked as one of the top public engineering programs in the country, prides itself on the quality of its students, the caliber of its alumni and the depth of its faculty. Our history of excellence has spanned more than a century of service to our state, nation and world. Almost 50,000 graduates have counted UT as their alma mater. Based on this history, we can project with confidence a very bright future for the next generation of UT engineers.
No public institution in the 21st century, however, is sustained solely by state government support. As we have transitioned over the last quarter of a century from a state-funded university to a state-assisted university, we have survived and thrived thanks in whole to the private support we receive from alumni, friends, corporations and foundations. Annually, more than 80% of our budget comes from competitively developed support, private gifts from individuals and companies, and research funding from corporations and governmental agencies — a fact that continues to humble and to encourage us to work towards excellence every day. Every donor who gives to the Cockrell School has a stake in all of the good things that students, alumni and faculty accomplish.
