General CEW information:

What is CEW?

CEW (Careers in Engineering for Women) is a weeklong summer camp for middle school girls designed to increase the representation of women in engineering and technical fields. It will be held in early June 2009 , on the University of Texas at Austin campus. CEW is an outreach program currently organized and directed by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) at the University of Texas at Austin. In 2005, CEW was awarded the Building the Future Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Click here for more general information about CEW.

The purposes of CEW are:

  • To encourage middle school girls to develop an interest in math, science and engineering through hands-on experiences
  • To introduce middle school girls to engineering career options
  • To promote an ongoing support and learning network for middle school girls to pursue their interest in math, science and engineering

Is CEW any fun?

You bet! During CEW, you will be part of a team and will learn an engineering problem solving method to compete in a project design contest. A volunteer engineer will be assigned to each team to serve in an advising capacity and female UT engineering students will serve as CEW counselors. You will live in a dorm near the University of Texas at Austin campus, one of the best engineering schools in the nation.

You also will learn about a variety of engineering careers and will go on tours of UT labs and meet many outstanding engineering professionals and college faculty.

Is CEW worth it?
