         Encounter with Engineering EWE

Encounter the Possibilities of a Career in Engineering

Are you currently in high school in a Central Texas school?

Are you good in math and science and thinking about engineering for a college major?

Want to talk with current UT engineering students to find out the real scoop on engineering for women?

Encounter with Engineering (EWE), a day-long program introducing engineering to high school females. EWE introduces girls to the different engineering fields and is a great opportunity for them to find out about engineering, what they can do with the degree, and talk to engineering students and professionals. This event is entirely free, and lunch is provided. Many of our past EWE participants have been inspired to pursue a career in engineering. We strongly encourage girls in grades 10 and 11 to participate.

WHEN: Saturday, February 14, 2009 11 am- 5pm (You have the option to shadow a student Friday, Feb. 13 th )

WHERE: UT Campus

Our program stresses hands-on activities and group work. Examples of activities in previous years:

  • Building a bridge and testing its durability
  • Extracting DNA from wheat germ
  • Making music with pencil and an electronic circuit
  • Creating a chemical reaction to form nylon

The deadline for this year's Encounter with Engineering program has passed. If you did not get a chance to apply, this is an annual event, and you can always apply next year.
