History
In the fall of 2000, Richard Heller, Eric Schieck, and Amit Garg (all engineering and computer science graduate and undergraduate students) became the founding team of the Engineering Entrepreneurship Society (EES) at the University of Texas. EES was inspired through one of the few entrepreneurship classes taught within the College of Engineering – Dr. Oran Brigham’s Engineering Entrepreneurship class. The founding team saw a great opportunity and an untapped potential in interested/talented engineering students, great engineering and business schools at UT, and an active startup community in Austin. The UT faculty, in particular Prof. Steven Nichols (currently Vice President for Technology Commercialization), has been very supportive of EES ventures. EES has grown rapidly from the first meeting that fall - from a growing number of members to actual teams being formed to pursue ventures. In the fall of 2002, EES changed names to Technology Entrepreneurship Society (TES) to fully embrace all engineering & science students.
