Learn About Our Events

Theta Tau participates in many events around the University of Texas. Among these are:

The Halloween Canned Food Drive:

Each fall all the members of Theta Tau participate in collecting food for the Austin Capital Area Food Bank. At this event, we dress up in the goofiest costumes we can come up with, then go door to door and solicit non-perishable food donations for the food bank. This event is always a lot of fun, and a great way to serve our community. And incidentally, our chapter has a long established tradition of winning this campus contest by bringing in the most food.

The Rube Goldberg Machine Contest:

Each spring, our chapter hosts the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest for the University of Texas. The winner from UT goes on to compete in the National Contest at Purdue University. In addition to hosting the contest, Theta Tau builds a machine for the competition. Working on the Rube Machine is great opportunity to get your hands dirty with some real engineering. It's also a lot of fun! For more information on this event, please visit our Rube page.

Habitat for Humanity:

One of our most recent activities, Habitat for Humanity gives us the opportunity to put our engineering know-how to good work in our community. During the last year, we have built porches, painted, laid roof shingles, and dug ditches at four H4H homes in the Austin area.

Engineering Day at the Mall (EDAM):

In the spring, we participate in Engineering Day at the Mall. We make a display and do a demonstration for kids and other mall-goers on how important engineering is in our daily lives. In the past, our demonstration on how to make silly putty has been very well received by the kids.

Professional Development:

Our professional development committee is devoted to planning several activities that enrich the professional lives of our members. This includes inviting speakers from the industry to our meetings, touring local plants or manufacturing facilities, and attending a wide variety of cultural events.
