Freshman Applicants

The Office of Admissions is responsible for the admission of first-year undergraduate students to The University of Texas at Austin. Please visit Texas Admissions for admission requirements and additional information, including locating your local admissions counselor, campus visit & event registration, financial aid and housing.

Please note that admission to the Cockrell School of Engineering is available only in the summer or fall (Deadline: Dec. 1). There is no spring admission.

To apply for admission to the Cockrell School, use the online form at the ApplyTexas website and select engineering as a first-choice major. When selecting a second-choice major, freshman applicants may choose from one of the many other majors offered at The University of Texas at Austin. However, we encourage students to indicate a second engineering major choice when applying to the Cockrell School.

Freshman applicants seeking admission to the Cockrell School must meet the calculus readiness requirement by the Dec. 1 admissions application deadline. For more information, refer to the Calculus Readiness Requirement.

Restricted Admission

Because admission to the Cockrell School of Engineering is so competitive, automatic admission for eligible Texas applicants is restricted to the most qualified students.
