The 2009 Student Leaders Conference will be held the Monday before classes begin in the fall semester.
The Cockrell School of Engineering Student Division Offices hosted the 4th Annual Student Leaders Conference on Monday, August 25, 2008 to train student leaders across the Cockrell School including student office staff, mentors, tutors and student organization leaders. Thanks to the Friends of Alec, the Student Leaders Conference has trained over 850 students in the past three years. The Student Leaders Conference is led by the Women in Engineering Program and is funded by the Friends of Alec Annual Giving Program. The Equal Opportunity in Engineering Program, Student Affairs Office and Office of Student Life assist with conference planning. Goals of the Conference are as follows:
- Quality and consistent training of student employees and leaders within the Cockrell School of Engineering is achieved while minimizing resource expenditures
- Student employees and leaders are shown how they fit into the Cockrell School of Engineering and how they are part of the Cockrell School of Engineering team which is larger than their individual organizations
- Participants, Cockrell School of Engineering staff and supporters find the Student Leaders Conference beneficial and valuable
- Networking opportunities between student leaders are provided in a fun, enjoyable training environment
