Undergraduates

Graduates Linked with Undergraduates in Engineering (GLUE) is a new program supported by the Women in Engineering Program (WEP).  Undergraduates are assigned to a graduate student mentor within their major, assist with research projects 3-5 hours per week, and participate in a weekly seminar class for credit.

  • Curious as to what goes on in those labs in your building?
  • Ever wonder who those graduate students are?
  • Interested in getting to know what research is like?
  • Want some great work experience that can set you apart from others when you start looking for a full time job or begin filling out that graduate school application?
  • Wondering how you're going to ever get 14 manageable and meaningful credit hours for the next spring semester?

GLUE could be for YOU!

GLUE Tuition and Fees Scholarships for $750 may be available.

Undergraduate participants take a 1 hour weekly seminar class, get 2 hours of credit that count towards the 14 hour rule, and have the chance to interact on a continual basis with a graduate student while working on research projects in engineering.  Kerry Kinney, CE Professor, and Tricia Berry, WEP Director, are the enthusiastic, informative, and entertaining course instructors.  See the course description below.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

WEP Undergraduate Research Experience

Undergraduate students work 3 to 5 hours per week with graduate students on engineering research projects.  Topics for the research experience are arranged at the beginning of each semester for each undergraduate/graduate student pair and may include conducting laboratory experiments, developing computer models, and performing literature reviews.  Students keep written logs documenting their research experience.  Mandatory seminar meetings related to the engineering profession and industrial or academic career tracks will be held weekly.

Enrollment is restricted to undergraduate students admitted into the Graduates Linking with Undergraduates in Engineering (GLUE) program.

Meeting Times:   3:30-4:50 Tuesday; Other meeting times to be arranged.

Instructor:  Kinney/Berry
