Role Model Spotlight: 5 Students Receive Rec Sports Scholarships

Earlier this month, 14 student employees at the Division of Recreational Sports were awarded scholarships for their outstanding work and dedication to their roles with the Division. Five of these recipients were engineering majors from the Cockrell School of Engineering.

Audranna Pennamon is a Junior from Humble, Texas majoring in Electrical Engineering. She balances her school work with working at RecSports as a student HR assistant and an intramural official and supervisor. After graduation, Audranna would like to pursue a career as a computer engineer to help create new technology.

Rachel Schutte is an Architectural Engineering senior who recently studied abroad with the merging Technologies London Maymester program. Originally from Grapevine, Texas, Rachel balances her time on campus working as a Recsports program assistant and building coordinator, finishing her coursework and serving on the RecSports Facility Operation s Council. Her goal is to someday design sustainability features in buildings.

Jesse Madden is from Clear Lake Texas and is also majoring in Architectural Engineering. This falls she began her senior year at UT and her sixth semester working at RecSports – most recently as a program assistant and building coordinator. When she isn’t studying or working, you can find Jesse staying busy with the Texas Diamonds spirit group or training with the Texas Triathlon team. After graduation, she hopes to stay in Austin and work as a structural engineer.

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Lauren Hinds is a senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She works at RecSports as a senior accounting assistant and trains for marathons during her free time. After earning her degree and working in the industry for a while, she plans to earn her PE License and possibly pursue an MBA.

When Sara Beirne isn’t studying for her Architectural Engineering degree, she dedicates a lot of time to RecSports' Outdoor Recreation Program working as an adventure trip guide, program assistant and outreach supervisor. She was born and raised in Austin, Texas and hopes to someday work as a designer at an architecture firm. Earlier this month, Sara kicked off her senior year by serving as the 2015 Party on the Plaza committee chair and helped RecSports host the largest student org. fair on campus.
