Deborah Hempel-Medina

Headshot of Dr. Deborah Hempel-MedinaMs. Deborah Hempel-Medina is a Lecturer in the Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering. She received a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993 and an MBA in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University in 2001.

 

Deborah currently teaches Engineering Communications. Her work focuses on developing the most relevant, informative engineering communications course that effectively addresses the needs of students, employers and faculty. Ms. Hempel-Medina has earned numerous awards including the Cockrell School of Engineering's Faculty Appreciation Award for the Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering Department for 2012-2013.

Her advice to current students: "Don't let a few bad attitudes dissuade you from your career". Ms. Hempel-Medina's favorite part of the work she does is being able to "help students by bringing the industry in which they will work into the classroom".
