A Regional Approach to Engaging K-12 Students in Engineering

Ms. Migdalia De Leon-Coffin
Academy Middle School Teacher

Migdalia De Leon-Coffin has been a teacher in the Fitchburg, Massachusetts, public schools since 1993. She has taught science, math and social studies in ESL and mainstream classrooms to a diverse urban population. As a science and technology teacher, she has developed and delivered workshops on a variety of topics, including weather, forces and motion, populations and ecosystems, the engineering design process, and integrating science with language arts. After school, she has led such extracurricular activities as Peer Mediation, Make-A-Difference Club, Recycling Club, Cooking Club and Homework Club. She was in charge of her school's after-school program for five years, and she is currently the science department coordinator at the Academy Middle School. Her current goal is to help more students become motivated to learn through the active and exciting activities associated with the engineering/design process.
