Our people — faculty, staff, students and alumni — represent the key to becoming the highest impact public engineering school. They build and maintain the communities we rely on.

Pathways to Impact

  • Instill a culture of creativity, calculated risk-taking and impactful work
  • Outperform peer institutions in recruiting and retaining top talent
  • Invest in our people through increased options for professional development
  • Create direct lines of feedback to leadership that empower people to help steer the future of the Cockrell School
  • Foster lifelong community at all levels – from student groups for first-years to professional organizations for staff and faculty, to tight-knit alumni associations for graduates

Kickoff 23-24: Progress and Updates

Faculty Retention

The Cockrell School will be the best place for faculty to work. To retain top-tier faculty, the school will expand options for research funding, support innovative teaching approaches and offer increased resources to translate work to the real world.

Establish Staff Council

A Cockrell School Staff Council will strengthen communication between staff and leadership on pressing issues and long-term initiatives. The council will recommend new and expanded options for professional development and be tasked with solving important challenges.

Alumni/Student Community

New and expanded community-building initiatives will unite current and past generations of Texas Engineers. Our alumni will play a valuable role in helping today’s students navigate the early days of their engineering career with mentorship and support.

Find your place in the plan

We need faculty and staff to step up and become Pathway Leaders for the plan. And we want to tell the stories of the many courageous engineers in our community. Know one? Reach out and tell us about them.
